The school day
8.30am The school gates open (the playground is not monitored by staff during this time and children remain the responsibility of parents).
8.40am The school doors are opened and a member of staff greet children as they arrive.
8.55am The bell signals for the start of the school day.
10.30-10.45am Playtime for all children
11.45-12.45 Lower School lunchtime
12.15-1.15pm Upper School lunchtime
3.30pm End of the school day
The lunchtime is staggered due to the increase in pupil numbers in school and as a response to feedback from parents. All children in each sitting can eat together, whether they have a packed lunch or a school meal. For Year 3 and 4, lunch begins at 11.45am and ends at 12.45pm. For Years 5 and 6, lunch begins at 12.15pm and ends at 1.15pm.
The lesson structure varies between classes; staff are free to design their own timetable based on what will be the most effective learning journey for the pupils. This may mean that some days start with literacy or numeracy, but some may start with art or music! This freedom ensures that the children’s learning needs are considered in every step of the lesson planning process.
Staff have their Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) time on either a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday with cover provided by specialist Language and RE teachers.
